Latin[]

Add Latin to Module:Language/Names (la, Latin, Lingua latīna) -Xbony2 (talk) 12:17, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Does anyone even speak latin as their primary language? 🐇Retep998🐇🐰Bunny Overlord🐰 12:38, 19 December 2016 (UTC)
I'd imagine there's one or two edge cases, but pretty much nobody does. -Xbony2 (talk) 22:36, 19 December 2016 (UTC)
No one speaks lojban as their primary language but we still have that. -- SatanicSanta🎅FTB Wiki Admin 02:41, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

Xbony2 for Administrator[]

Hello, I'm Xbony2. I could make a block of text talking about myself, but in reality if you don't know who I am and what I've done here you are probably ineligible to vote.

If you have any questions or statements you'd like to ask or state, feel free to get them out before voting. As per usual convention voting ends in 7 days.

One thing I think might come up- as an administrator of this wiki, I promise to do my best to not perform large-scale actions without prior discussion. I know I've been somewhat known for being a bit too bold at a few times in the past, and I am regretful about that, but I'll try to be good. It's worth noting I don't consider all administrational actions to be considered large-scale actions; adding a language to Module:Language/Names? Not large scale. Modifying the sidebar? Large-scale. You get the idea.

Like I said, this vote will [hopefully] end on December 31st, which is also when the 2016-2017 Marathon will start for anybody participating (unless somebody is aiming to edit for over a day, but that's unlikely). No coincidence :P

Against[]

  1. Pictogram voting opposeAgainst: Considering from the long list of extra rights you get, the only one you ever seem to want but not have is occasionally edit a protected page, and there's no very many of those anyway. Ignoring the grouping changes that are meant to happen soon ™ is quite foolish, as those changes are effectively changing what you're applying for now. The priority should be resolving that before moving about in the old system, especially when we could end up in the same situation then if you change your mind about what rights you have under the new system. Under Retep's system for example, it's probably fair we both are admins and have Santa and Retep as Bureaucrats because realistically it's only the editing rights you want, not everything else that comes with it. Chocohead NagEditsStaff 18:43, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
I personally don't think the only right I'd use is editing protected pages; considering I'm the most active editor, being able to view the connect stats would be useful. There's also other potentials with other rights, like the abuse filter, which could add tags to new pages missing infoboxes or categories or such. Maybe adding a few interwikis would be fun. But for the most part, I agree it probably would be editing pages I can't edit normally. It maybe be "occasional", but the majority of the administrational actions taken recently have been at my request. I'd probably be more willing to do more stuff like create gadgets or widgets if it was easier to test them and not have to wait for Santa/Retep to make [or not make] changes.
The thing about the group changes is that they aren't, or don't seem to be, concrete. If they were concrete, we'd be there by now. I'm not sure if they'll ever happen at this point. That's why I don't want them to be in the way of this application here. Having my application depend on something that hypothetically might happen is largely what fucked me up last application, and I'm trying to learn from that and do the opposite. -Xbony2 (talk) 22:39, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
What do you mean by concrete? Do you mean that the exact right changes haven't been detailed? Because they have in the spreadsheet. Do you mean the changes haven't been set in stone yet? That's partially because people like you haven't specifically pointed out which rights changes you like or dislike. 🐇Retep998🐇🐰Bunny Overlord🐰 23:53, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
I do not necessarily believe the changes you've provided will be the final version, yes. And I've basically opposed the entire thing, not just some particular piece of it. Either way, it seems further negotiations need to be done, and it doesn't seem like they will be done in a matter of days. -Xbony2 (talk) 00:25, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
  2. Pictogram voting opposeAgainst: I would prefer we change all right groups (and maybe change protection on some pages– I can edit everything so I don't notice what is and is not protected) to be more inclusive rather than making everyone an admin when they need like 3 rights in the entire group. If you would spell out exactly what you need in the admin group (you mentioned protection and abuse filters above; protection is fair, but abuse filter stuff is seriously never used except for spam protection). Most of the group doesn't seem like it would be that useful for you specifically. -- SatanicSanta🎅FTB Wiki Admin 03:58, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
If you're looking for something oddly specific, it's going to be hard to develop and maintain T3 as a gadget without interface access. Sure I can develop a prototype in my user JS, but chances are it's going to be something that will be continuously developed, even after it is "released". Part of why I've been holding off on that is because of this. -Xbony2 (talk) 14:04, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
Another thing is since xbony2 is the most active editor on the wiki, him being an admin means that in case of an emergency or in case where an admin is needed, there is a better chance for someone to be active. -IndestructiblePharaohVII 16:18, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
The only emergencies we could have is either Curse breaks something or a lot of spam, in the first case chances are only Curse can fix their fuck up anyway and in the second staff can already revert any edit from any users other than admins. So unless Santa or Retep get hacked, which evidence would suggest they're not going to be (and it's not like there's much value to doing it anyway compared to stealing any Curse points they have), there's not a demand for faster admin access than we already have. Retep is always about in IRC when he's not asleep too, so if something's important enough he'll do it immediately (subject to terms and conditions). Otherwise it will get done soon enough, as we've coped with for years now. Chocohead NagEditsStaff 17:30, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
Well, the more admins, the merrier. Another thing to add is that neither Santa nor Retep use all of these rights on a regular basis, and if someone has a lot of rights isn't going to hurt anyone. -IndestructiblePharaohVII 20:12, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Neutral/Abstain[]

  1. Pictogram voting neutralNeutral - Is a good guy, makes and helps alot, and donates the wiki a lot of free time ... but I have no idea about the requirements, rights and obligations for this position. If the other admins say that he is suitable for the position, then I support him. --LuminousLizard FTB Wiki Staff de-N / "en-2" (talk) 17:35, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
I am pretty sure that he is suitable for an admin. -IndestructiblePharaohVII 09:14, 25 December 2016 (UTC)
  2. Pictogram voting neutralNeutral I really wish we'd gotten the group overhaul stuff done already, but alas. Now if xbony2 were to push my group overhaul stuff through, then I'd totes support him for admin. 🐇Retep998🐇🐰Bunny Overlord🐰 20:50, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
I think I was going to make a comment about the group overhaul stuff but I forgot to- I'd encourage you guys to vote disregarding it. Ultimately it doesn't look like the role of administrator will be affected much if at all. Speaking of group overhauls, I've been playing around with a counter-counter-counter proposal for it in my head, but that's another story. -Xbony2 (talk) 22:26, 24 December 2016 (UTC)

I'm repeating myself, but it's worth saying everything related to future groups is unsettled still and you should probably vote disregarding it. Otherwise this vote is going to be a pain to get through. -Xbony2 (talk) 14:34, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

Decision[]

As discussed in IRC, we actually don't have any concrete rules regarding voting ratios (or really voting at all for that matter); most votes strongly lean one way or another and a decision can be easily be made. This vote is a bit more rough. However, it passes both a 50% margin and a 3:2 margin; as far as votes go, requiring any more than that is rather abnormal. Additionally, I do not think any of the opposers would have trouble sleeping at night if this passes, or that any of them will be particularly concerned for the state of the wiki or anything like that. Therefor, I say this application passes. Now, I don't want to be accused of crowning myself; Santa can talk to Retep, and Retep can talk to Santa, but I do not think the outcome will be any different (and I doubt it would be appropriate if it is). Happy 2017 everyone, and welcome to a new era for this wiki. -Xbony2 (talk) 14:33, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

\o/, the translation admin space is now cleared :P. -IndestructiblePharaohVII 21:13, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
Well no, I'm still the guy to talk to on translation :P but there can be more than one translation admin, just as there is more than one admin. -Xbony2 (talk) 21:23, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
But one person has all of the power. -IndestructiblePharaohVII 21:26, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
You may start as an apprentice, but maybe you become an equal in time :P maybe, you have a lot to learn. -Xbony2 (talk) 21:29, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

The Editor Trials[]

As per the new group system, I'm not entirely 100% what the dealio is, I assume nominations are still an okay thing. Anyway, I'd like to nominate the following editors to gain the "Editor" rank. As per convention these votes will end in three days. For nominees- by becoming Editor, you are not committing to anything. It is merely a recognition of you as a trusted and somewhat decent editor, and you gain a few rights that normal users do not have that may assist you in editing (see Special:ListGroupRights). -Xbony2 (talk) 02:01, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
