The Feed The Beast Wiki is created and maintained by the efforts of the community. This page describes roles that users have been appointed to by others or given to themselves.

Contact

The community IRC channel is on EsperNet: #FTB-Wikiconnect. The Discord server can be found here.

There are a variety ways to bring issues to the attention of the community:

  • Centralized discussion: This is for any and all issues that affect the community in any way. Most issues should be taken here.
  • Translators' noticeboard: This if or any issues relating to translation and multilingualism on the wiki.
  • Administrators' noticeboard: This is for issues and actions that need to be addressed by administrators' and/or bureaucrats, and cannot be tackled by people without these permissions.
  • Bot operators' noticeboard: This is for issues relating to automated wiki processes and bot accounts.

If your issue affects a single page or user, leave a message on the according talk page.

Roles

There are a variety of roles described here. Since roles are largely conceptual, there is no limit to what roles you may ascribe yourself or be given.

  • Bureaucrats: The duties of this role are bureaucratic in nature. Bureaucrats assign user groups to other users and perform some of the highest level actions that moderate the wiki. This role is limited to those in the bureaucrat user group and is second underneath the wiki manager.
  • Administrators (sysops): The duties of this role are to assist the bureaucrats and perform tasks that do not need as much elevation, such as managing the interface, updating pages in the MediaWiki namespace when necessary, protecting or unprotecting pages, and more. This role is limited to those in the sysop user group. All bureaucrats are inherently administrators.[note 1]
  • Wiki manager: The duties of this person are to perform the highest-level actions that keep the wiki in working order and to manage the MediaWiki instance behind the wiki. They are the direct person of contact for Fandom-related issues like adding extensions, updating MediaWiki configurations, and more. This role is limited to those in the wiki manager user group.[note 2]
  • Editor: The duties of this role are to curate and maintain content articles and templates on the wiki. There is no limit to who can become an editor. This role is limited to those in the editor user group. The user group provides some additional permissions to aid in the mod documentation process, namely marking pages for translation, moving pages, editing tilesheet and oredict entries, purging pages, and more.[1] There are too many editors to list here.
  • Translator: The duties of this role are to translate content into non-English languages on pages that have been marked for translation by editors. Since everyone can translate; there is no limit to who is a translator. Translation projects are listed at Project:TP.
  • Wiki singer: This role is for those who entertain the community by singing on Discord, Teamspeak, and other VoIP services.
  • Web developer: The duties of this role is to maintain our JavaScript and CSS primarily, as other web development is handled by Fandom.
  • Lua mastermind: The duty of this role is to maintain Scribunto modules.
  • Translation administrator: The duties of this role are to manage the translation extension and ensure editors are correctly marking up pages for translation.
  • Extension developer: The duty of this role is to handle the development of our custom MediaWiki extensions, like OreDict and Tilesheets.
  • Mod-specific curator: Mod curators handle documenting and maintaining the documentation for specific mods. Anyone can appoint themselves to any mod.
  • Public relations: The duties of this role are to handle advertisement and interaction between the modding community at large and our wiki community.
    • Xbony2 (t · c): Manages the Discord server, has represented the wiki in modding events, and sponsors editathons.
  • FTB Core Team representative: The duty of this role is to represent the interests of the community directly (through any kind of open decision-making process) to the FTB Core Team. This is an elected role, and the representative can be deposed and replaced via voting. In modern times, this role has not been critical to the development of the wiki as it is no longer dependent on the FTB Team or mods.

Tools

The wiki has a GitHub organization at FTB-Gamepedia where some various tools and programs can be found.

Staff legacy

Before 2017, there was a staff system, in which people were promoted through the wiki hierarchy democratically. Staff were responsible for helping new users, watching for vandalism, etc. However, since this role can easily be filled, in most cases, by the community without the need for democratic leadership and leader appointment, this has been dissolved.

Former staff list

This list is kept for historical purposes. It lists everyone who was previously considered staff. People who were staff, but were de-staffed as a result of the group overhaul (which dissolved the staff system, as mentioned above) are not listed here.

  1. Any omitted users on the Special:ListUsers page are bot accounts, with each one being owned by one of the sysops.
  2. The wiki_manager user group does not display properly in the software as a result of it being a global user group across the entire Fandom wiki farm.
