I have recently decided to continue my studies after-hours which means what little time I had left will disappear for the next couple of years. The studies will be mostly to further my career, but the good news is that I am going to sneak in some gaming related courses in there. I am hoping to return to modding eventually, or maybe even publish a game of my own.

In the past most of my updates have built upon previous versions and in general mechanics between versions had been evolutions instead of complete redesigns. This time around I am thinking about fundamental changes with only some of the core concepts and the flavor of the mod remaining the same.

The question is: should I? I usually get a itch to shake things up during a big update push, but this will probably be one of the biggest departures yet. Would you guys be cool with something like this?

In short: Instead of breaking complex aspects down into simple ones it will work the other way around. You will start out with primals and combine them till you get the aspects you want. Burning items for aspects might not even survive this change - raw primal essentia will probably be gathered for worldgen crystals initially and later using some aura related mechanic. See what I mean with big changes?

Thaumcraft 6 is a reimagining of the Thaumcraft 5 mod by Azanor. Thaumcraft is based off of the form of magic known as Thaumaturgy. A person who performs Thaumaturgy is called a Thaumaturge. This person is also defined as a person who works wonders and performs miracles using the magical essences inside physical objects.

The mod is currently in beta on 1.12.2. On January 14, 2019, Azanor announced that he has discontinued development.[1]

As of January 2019, Team CoFH has taken upon the port of the mod to newer versions, while Azanor remains as the the creative director.[2] Teasers for "Thaumcraft 7" are regularly posted in the Team CoFH Discord.

Major changes from Thaumcraft 5

  • Wands were removed and replaced with the Caster's Gauntlet and related blocks and items.
  • Vis no longer comes from nodes, but is spread throughout the environment. Each chunk has a pool of vis. Vis spreads slowly to and from neighboring chunks.

Thaumonomicon
