The Ye ol' Editathon (an editathon) is an event for any and all FTB Wiki contributors to take part in. It starts on March 30th 2018, 0:00 AM UTC and ends on April 6th.

Participants should focus on documenting oldish, discontinued mods that would otherwise be ignored. For the purposes of this editathon, this will be defined as mods created for a version before 1.10 and not being actively continued. This is a pretty broad range of mods, and includes documentation of RedPower 2, Intangible, DartCraft, Thaumcraft 4, Witchery, PowerCraft, etc., but not documentation of GregTech 6, Quark, Botania, etc. Yes, this is very open compared to the other Ye ol' Editathons, but I want to give options for everyone. Participants do not need to edit continuously, although they are encouraged to sink a fair amount of time into the editathon.

It is recommended to stay in contact with other editors through the FTB Wiki Discord or the #FTB-Wikiconnect IRC channel in order to prevent edit conflicts, ask for help and suggestions, and generally improve the experience by sharing it with others.

Sign-ups begin at March 28th! You can sign up late/during the editathon as desired. To sign up, just add your name to the participants section.

This is a promotion by Xbony2. Neither Curse nor Twitch sponsors or endorses this promotion, nor are they responsible for this promotion.

  • Not sure how to get started? Maybe try.... the Getting started guide! There are also other pages worth looking at, including the Manual of Style and article creation guideline.
  • If possible, asking for the creation of a tilesheet (what's used to make all of the little pictures) for a particular mod is easier to take care of before the editathon than during. If need be, you might be able to ask an experienced editor to make a navbox for you if you can't be bothered to do that.
  • Collaborating to document a particular mod is certainly possible, but keep in mind MediaWiki as not as good at handling collaborations as something like Google Docs. If collaborating, make sure to communicate with your partners so you don't accidentally write the same article independently, and consider backing up your edits (just copying them into the clipboard before saving is usually good enough) if working on an important page to avoid potential edit conflicts.
  • Don't be shy to ask for help! The Discord or #FTB-Wikiconnect is the best place to do this.

Participants

  1. Xbony2 working on DivineRPG, maybe Thaumcraft 5, GregTech 4, PowerCraft...
  2. TheSatanicSanta pretending to work on Witchery but probably actually just working on a bunch of small mods nobody knows about instead
  3. Hubry probably working on Thaumcraft 4.
  4. SirMoogle working on a few 1.7.10 mods, as he is currently playing a 1.7.10 modpack.
  5. Trytoonex working on a few navbox (Advent Of Ascension / Chisel)... if I have time.
  6. Intipablo working on Mariculture.

Outcome

The 2018 Ye ol' Editathon was alright. There were 6 editathoners total, 1 more than the 2017 Ye ol' Editathon. There was definitely more activity than the 2017 Ye ol' Editathon, although overall it was a bit disappointingly low even considering there was advertising on both the Feed The Beast Subreddit and the FTB Twitter (great thanks for letting us use it) (plus the site notice and Discord). This is probably due to a lack of interest in older mods and the wiki technical issues that conveniently coincided with the editathon's start. In total there was only one new editor, although it could be two if you count another editor who saw the Reddit ad and did some 1.12 documentation but didn't participate in the editathon. Of course, even with activity not as high as hoped, there were at least some contributions to older mods, but it seems decreasingly likely that a 2019 Ye ol' Editathon will be held.

The following noteworthy accomplishments were made during the editathon:

  • duke605's mods were nearly completed, with In-Game Mod List being the only remaining undocumented mod. During the editathon, Ender Book, KingCore, and Tool Heads were all finished.
  • Villager's Nose was finally completed.
  • Documentation of Mariculture got started and continues to make progress.
  • The ModJam competitions, ModJam 1 to ModJam 4, were documented (albeit not the mods in them, just the list of mods and the info on each competition), which makes up a huge collection of old, forgotten mods.

The next editathon will probably be a general editathon in late summer. Maybe a 400k Editathon? Maybe it'd be better if it was 450k or 500k. Or we can just make something up like we did with the Let's Just Do It Editathon. There will totally be a reward. I promise. Feel free to hit up Xbony2 with ideas.
