Article Titles[edit source]

  • Article titles, headings and sections -> Article titles -> "Use exactly the same name for items as it appears in game." I think there should be an exception for duplicate names in mods (Iron Gear in BuildCraft /and/ Railcraft) --Alistaire (talk) 19:44, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Embed Video[edit source]

  • We need to include instructions on proper embedding of video. I think it's OK to limit embedding to specific sites (e.g. Youtube). Spasticon (talk) 01:39, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Issues with the style guide[edit source]

This style guide contains policies and guidelines that are not appropriate for a style guide and as such should be left on separate wiki rules page. Examples are info about content policies. And, strict usage of in-game capitalization in the text (example, “Bronze Hull” instead of “bronze hull”) breaks English language’s capitalization rules (would someone capitalize “Door” in real life?). — NickTheRed37t · ru.MCW user

When we are referring to an item by name, we use the exact in-game name with its exact capitalization. So when talking about the item Wooden Door we would capitalize it, and when talking about doors in general we don't capitalize it. Basically the item name is a proper noun, which means it has to be capitalized like a proper noun.
If you have better ideas on how to organize the various rules and guidelines, feel free to write up a proposal. The current setup has been grandfathered in and is in need of some love. 🐇Retep998🐇🐰Bunny Overlord🐰 13:12, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
Generally (real life included), item names are common nouns. Why should they not be such here?! — NickTheRed37t · ru.MCW user

Because we're not just talking about any old wooden door, we're talking about specifically the Wooden Door from vanilla Minecraft. I can talk about bronze ingots all day but when referring to the Bronze Ingot from Forestry I use a capitalized proper noun. That's the policy the staff members agreed on and nobody's had an issue with it until now. If we did decide to make item names lowercase, what about things like the Blend-O-Matic 9000 or the BrainTech Aerospace Advanced Reinforced Duct Tape FAL-84? Should they also be lowercase? If not, where do we draw the line? 🐇Retep998🐇🐰Bunny Overlord🐰 16:32, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
For what we have exceptions, lol. — NickTheRed37t · ru.MCW user

There's no point breaking a system just to have exceptions which return to it :P Chocohead NagEditsStaff 19:05, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
Ya know, the real problem with switching systems is fixing all the 6000 articles :P Xbony2 (talk) 21:55, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
The rules draft will be here. Please discuss it there. — NickTheRed37t · ru.MCW user

Section headers[edit source]

TheSatanicSanta: it's been discussed in IRC before; == Recipe == (section headers with a space, which we can call... idk, 2space style) has never been considered preferred over ==Recipe== (section headers without a space, which we can wiktionary style). It's something Nick threw in as a guideline.

In general, I think clauses can be added to the MOS without needing consensus. However, if someone challenges a clause like that, that clause must be booted from the MOS, and cannot return without consensus (likely a vote or a simple agreement). Obviously, I'm challenging calling 2space style the be-all and end-all (preferred) section header style, as me and a number of other editors use wiktionary style. We can at least agree that both are the options to be chosen (as verse a mixed style ==Recipe ==, which is... silly stupid). -Xbony2 (talk) 14:15, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

See my latest edit. That isn't why I undid your edit. I should've been more clear, and probably not just blindly undid the entire edit :P -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 18:59, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
fair enough then -Xbony2 (talk) 21:53, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

Mentioning child mods in parent mods[edit source]

SatanicSanta, what's the protocol for mentioning child mods (e.g., Thaumic Horizons or Forbidden Magic) in pages of their parent mods (e.g., Thaumcraft 4)? There are some items in the parent mod that are virtually useless by themselves and have more significant uses in child mods. --SirMoogle (talk) 19:14, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

SirMoogle- Addons? There's not really a defined convention, just make sure information on the "Vanilla" usage is first and that any addon-related information comes second. feel free to point out a concrete example -Xbony2 (talk) 01:12, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
