Fission Reactor Designs (NuclearCraft)

This page is an ever-growing collection of NuclearCraft Fission Reactor designs. All designs below are built in Hellrage's Reactor Planner. Although the planner comes with the default NuclearCraft configs, the nuclearcraft.cfg config file from the config folder in the directory of the modpack you are playing can be imported into the planner. There are various designs below that may only be effective with particular config settings; if you are uploading a design using non-default configs, please specify which pack you are using in the design description!

There two main categories of designs:

Pre-Overhaul Designs are split into the following subcategories:

  • Passive Solid-Fuel: solid-fuel designs which contain no active coolers.
  • Active Solid-Fuel: solid-fuel designs which contain at least one active cooler.
  • Molten Salt: molten salt designs. The planner does not yet support molten salt reactors directly, but this config file will have the planner use the default molten salt fuel and coolant stats.

Pre-overhaul designs are built in the reactor planner versions 1.x.


Post-Overhaul Designs are split into the following subcategories:

  • Pebble Bed: pebble bed designs.
  • Solid-Fuel: overhauled solid-fuel designs.
  • Molten Salt: overhauled molten salt designs.

Post-overhaul designs are built in the reactor planner versions 2.x. Please note that while a planner exists for the overhauled reactors, the mod itself has not undergone the overhaul.

Passive Solid-Fuel[edit | edit source]

'Tutorial Build v1' [3x3x3] by tomdodd4598[edit | edit source]

A reasonably cheap early-game reactor. It is perfect for non-oxidised LEU-235, generating a handy 2237 RF/t.

An upgrade of the original but involving more expensive coolers to deal with the additional heat generated by the new graphite block.

'Pocket Star' [2x2x2] by Hammurabi1337[edit | edit source]

A very compact build designed specifically for HEU-235 Fuel. I use this to power remotely located machines instead of finicking with remote RF transfer from my base.

A large build that could be very handy at burning through a lot of HEU-235.

This triple whopper deluxe of a build can easily be extended by piling additional sets of the centre 5x5x5 section on top of each other.

A high-efficiency, cubic reactor that can safely run any low-enriched oxide fuel.

'The Corefficiency' [6x6x6] by Hammurabi1337[edit | edit source]

A peak-efficiency 6x6x6 reactor. While 'The Core' strikes a balance between cooling and efficiency, this variant is about squeezing every drop of energy out of your low-enriched fuels.

A large medium-high-efficiency reactor that can safely run most low-enriched fuels.

'The Breeder v2' [5x7x5] by Mohock[edit | edit source]

Instead of fuel efficiency and power production this reactor is designed for high throughput to produce Cf-250 quickly. The design is extendable in all directions and it doesn't use expensive cooler materials such as liquid helium. Fuels below 409 H/t will run without generating heat, for hotter burning fuels you need the redstone safety loop.

Active Solid-Fuel[edit | edit source]

'Rigged v7' [7x7x7] by GrandFlail[edit | edit source]

Reactor designed to be as cheap to build and run as possible, while still generating massive power. The corner active fluid coolers should be filled with resonant ender and rest should be water cooled. A reactor for someone who wants a big power output and is rather new to NuclearCraft, since it performs best with basic fuels such as TBU or TBU-Ox.
