Getting Started (Prodigy Tech)
Prodigy Tech is a mod mainly about machines and Hot Air. While the machines themselves are very reminiscent of other mods such as Thermal Expansion or Mekanism, they run on an unique power system with its own quirks.
This guide will guide you until you can make and properly recharge
250°C Heat Capacitors. It also assumes that the various recipes have not been altered by an exterior mod such as CraftTweaker and that no other mod that can provide some of the required materials (such as Tech Reborn with Carbon Plates) are present.
Gathering resources[edit | edit source]
Before making any machines, you will need to collect several resources:
Gunpowder (or any ore dictionary equivalent)
Sand (or any ore dictionary equivalent)
It is also recommended to craft the
Handbook of Prodigies as it contains essential information about everything added by the mod. Its content will gradually unlock as you progress through the various machines.
Explosion Furnace[edit | edit source]
Explosion Furnace is the first machine you need to craft. It requires explosives and dampeners to initiate an explosive reaction which is used to craft items. The most essential one is
Ferramic Ingots, which will be required for nearly every craft in the mod.
To craft them early game without worrying about the exact workings of the
Explosion Furnace, insert in the latter:
Clay or 1
Gunpowder (or any ore dictionary equivalent)
Sand (or any ore dictionary equivalent)
Stand back and give it a redstone pulse (with a
Button for example) to craft items. The resulting explosion will not destroy any blocks but can do a lot of damage if you are standing too close to it. This should give you a total of 16
It is possible to craft more in a single batch by simpling doubling or tripling all the relevant proportions. You can also safely put too much iron or clay in it and they won't be consumed, but messing the proportions of gunpowder or sand will result in a loss of efficiency.
Aeroheaters and Hot Air[edit | edit source]
Now that you have ferramic, you can now start crafting actual machines.
- The former simply requires to be placed above a block of Lava (source or flowing), but can only provide 80°C of heat which can only power one early game machine and will not be enough to progress further.
- The latter consumes Furnace fuels and can reach a temperature of 200°C.
Once your aeroheater of choice is placed and powered, it will start emitting Hot Air to the block above it. To make use of it, you will need to craft a Hot Air machine, such as the
Rotary Grinder. Craft it and place it down directly above your Aeroheater.
Once the provided temperature exceeds 80°C, the grinder will be able to work. The higher the temperature it receives, the faster it will work.
When a Hot Air machine is not working, it transmits all of the Hot Air it receives to the block above it, allowing you to stack multiple machines on top of eachother. This means only one aeroheater is required if you do not intend on having multiple machines active at the same time. When a machine is working, then it will only transmit part of the Hot Air it receives. For most early game machines, this part is 80%.
That means, for example, if a
Rotary Grinder is getting powered by a fully heated up
Solid Fuel Aeroheater (providing 200°C), then the block above the grinder will receive 200°C when the grinder is idle and 160°C when it is working. This means a single
Solid Fuel Aeroheater can power 4 working machines with the same power requirements as the
Rotary Grinder simultaneously, although at different speeds.
Lastly, if you need to transmit Hot Air to a machine placed much higher, you may craft
Air Funnels. These will simply transmit all of the Hot Air they receive upwards at no loss, unless they receive a redstone signal in which case they won't transmit anything.
Solderer and Circuits[edit | edit source]
To progress past simple machines, the next step is crafting the
Solderer and an aeroheater that can provide the required 125°C (at this stage only the
Solid Fuel Aeroheater fits). To craft it a
Carbon Plate is required, which can be crafted with
Coal Dust made in the
To make circuits, the
Solderer requires several ingredients:
Gold Dust or
Tiny Piles of Gold Dust, all made in the
- A Circuit Pattern, making one of each kind (
Perfected) is recommended
Energion[edit | edit source]
Now that you can make circuits, you can now craft the
Energion Aeroheater. It burns
Energion Dust as fuel and can reach a maximum temperature of 250°C, allowing it to power even more advanced machines such as the
Primordialis Reactor or the
Energion Dust can be manually crafted with various expensive dusts, but it is very inefficient to do so. Instead you can craft one dust manually then turn it into an
Energion Crystal Seed in a
This seed can be planted anywhere on the ground, but preferably far from anything valuable. Once planted it will slowly grow in 6 stages, which must be harvested with a
Crystal Cutter. Harvesting a grown crystal with anything else will result in a sizeable explosion.
Grown crystal yields more seeds when harvested, which can either be replanted or ground back into
Energion Dust to power machinery. 1 Dust can also be used as a substitute for 5
Gunpowder in the
Automated Energion and Wormhole Funnels (optional)[edit | edit source]
Harvesting grown crystals will be your main source of fuel for your machines, making it an essential process to automate. To do so, craft yourself some
Automatic Crystal Cutters.
To work, it needs to be provided with Hot Air and have an
Energion Crystal Seed planted right in front of it. When the crystal becomes fully grown, the cutter activates and cuts it down until it is back to its first growth stage.
Because there is a lot of downtime for a single crystal cutter, it will often transmit the full heat it receives. Thus a lot of crystal cutters can be stacked up with a relatively weak Hot Air source.
These acts as "wireless"
Air Funnels. Place one
Wormhole Funnel on the top of your Hot Air source and one below where you need it to go, then right click either of them then the other with the
Wormhole Linker to link them together. If they are correctly placed and they are close enough, Hot Air will start to transfer between the two as if they were directly connected.
Wormhole Funnel may only be linked to one "output" funnel and vice versa. You can right click a linked funnel to see a line pointing to the corresponding other funnel. Linking has a maximum range of 8 blocks in any direction (meaning the second funnel must be in a 17x17x17 cube centered on the first one).
Heat Capacitors[edit | edit source]
Aeroheaters take a while to fully heat up to their maximum temperature, making them inefficient for occasional usage. Heat Capacitors provide a more convenient (but less efficient) way of having Hot Air ready whenever you need it, although they are not required to progress further in the mod.
To get started, you will need a
Heat Accumulator to charge them.
And you will also need the capacitors themselves. The cheapest but least powerful one is the
125°C Heat Capacitor. You can upgrade it into a more powerful
250°C Heat Capacitor if needed. It is also possible to upgrade it two more times (into the
1000°C Heat Capacitor), but they won't be useable until you can afford a
Heat Accumulator down and provide it with Hot Air at least as hot as what the capacitor can provide (125, 250, 500 and 1000°C respectively), place your capacitor inside and let it charge. Charging a capacitor completely takes several minutes and does not leave any Hot Air for any machine above the accumulator.
When your capacitor is fully (or sufficiently) charged, you can take it out of the accumulator and store it for later or put it into a
This aeroheater simply discharges the heat stored in the capacitor, but unlike other aeroheaters fully heats up in mere seconds. When you do not need it, just like other aeroheaters you can deactivate it with a simple redstone signal.
All Heat Capacitors take more time to charge than they can provide heat for, meaning that storing heat is not a lossless process.
