The Robot Leaf Cutter is a Robot added by BuildCraft. It is able to automatically cut leaves. Subsequently the leaves can be collected by the "Picker" Robot and stored in a Chest.

The Robot automatically cuts leaves and clear forests quickly. To automatically collect the leaves from the ground, the player needs a Picker Robot.

The following setup describes how to mark a work zone and configure a robot to clear an example forest shown in Fig. 1.

The following items are needed for the setup:

Step 1: Defining the work zone[edit | edit source]

The player must demarcate the area in which the Robot should cut leaves. This is achieved with Land Marks. If the player doesn't demarcate a working area and configure the Robot in Step 3, the Robot will fly to every active chunk around the player and clear every tree/forest as well as leaves which are included for decoration in a house.

Place three Land Marks in a 90° angle which defines the base of the forest. Right-click on one of the Marks to display the red borders (shown in Fig. 2) which show the ground area of the work zone.

The two marks on the left and right in the figure may not be more than 64 blocks away from the center mark.

To add height to the work zone, place the fourth Land Mark over the Mark in the center up to the height where the last leaves are present. Right-clicking on any Land Mark will display a red border framing a 3-dimensional work zone (shown in Fig. 3). If no red border appears, the Land Marks are not in a 90° angle to each other.

To cut all leaves of the trees, the Robot Leaf Cutter needs a 3-dimensional zone which includes all leaves. If the player uses the 2-dimensional zone defined by the three ground Land Marks, the Robot will only cut leaves on the ground.

Step 2: Control Station[edit | edit source]

The player must build the control station of the Robot. It can be placed anywhere but it is recommend to place it near the work zone for easier access. The following described control station is the simplest and can be extended.

The station includes a Chest with a connected Wooden Transport Pipe, a Docking Station, and a Emerald AND Gate which can be placed anywhere on the pipe (without disconnecting the chest).

Place the Lever in front of the Gate and the Shears in the Chest. The station should look like the example in Fig. 4.

Step 3: Configuration[edit | edit source]

Next is to configure the Emerald Gate to control the Robot. The example provided here is one of many and others may be used instead.

Right-click the Emerald Gate to open its GUI which shows two configurable 4x4 slotted fields (one left, one right).

Replicate the fields as shown in Fig. 5. In the first and third row on the right side are
signalling an item is missing from those slots and must be added.

The important configurations to control the robot, which are shown in Fig. 5, are explained in the following:

The sequence of rows does not matter.

Slots requiring coordinates can be supplemented with the Map Location.

  1. Take the Map Location and right-click on one of the Land Marks to receive the coordinates of the work zone (shown in Fig. 6). The Map Location should now have a rectangle on it. Place the Map Location in the Emerald Gate's GUI in the
    slot in the first row ("Working area" option). The coordinates will be stored and the Map Location can be reused for the second coordinates.
  2. Take the Map Location and right-click on the Docking Station to receive its coordinates. Note: It is important which side is indicated at the coordinates for the Docking Station. This is displayed in the player inventory when the cursor hovers over the Map Location. Check that the specified side is the same as the Docking Station (e.g., "UP" if the Docking Station is on top of the pipe. Place the Map Location in the
    slot in the third row of the Emerald Gate's GUI ("Go to station" option).
  3. Put Shears in one of the empty slots in the second row on the right side.

The configuration should appear like in Fig. 5 and the control station is fully configured. The Land Marks and the respective frame are no longer needed and can be removed. If the player wants to use the frame for other robots (for example for the Robot Picker, make sure to have the coordinates stored in a Map Location for reuse.

Step 4: Starting and stopping[edit | edit source]

Place the Leaf Cutter Robot on top of the Docking Station (shown in Fig. 7). The Robot will initially do nothing because the third logic statement instructs it to stay on the Station when no redstone signal is provided.

If the Lever in front of the gate is switched and a redstone signal is provided to the gate, the first and the second logic statements will become true and activate.

After a short time (the update time of the Robot), the Robot will take some Shears out of the Chest (second logic statement in the Emerald Gate) and start work in the work zone (first logic statement in the Emerald Gate) (shown in Fig. 8) until there are no more leaves in the work zone.

Once the Shears are broken the Robot will automatically return to the station to retrieve another pair of Shears (if any) inside the Chest before resuming work.

When all leaves are cut in the work zone, the robot will automatically return to the control station but will remain active. It will resume work when new leaves are placed or spawn in the working area. The Robot can be stopped from working anytime by switching the lever (in front of the gate) off, causing it to return to the Docking Station and becoming inactive.

Recharging[edit | edit source]

If the robot is low on energy, it will seek out a kinesis pipe with a Docking Station to charge itself. If none are available, it will continue doing its job until its battery dies. The player can also stop the robot with attacks to prematurely drain its battery, causing the to Robot drop as an item on the ground. Stronger attacks will drain its battery faster. The player can pick up the Robot and place it in the Charging Table to recharge it. After that, the Robot can be placed again on the Docking Station to resume work.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • After programming the frame created with the Land Marks is no longer required. The coordinates of the working area are saved in the emerald gate.
  • If no work zone is defined, the Robot will cut all leaves in active chunks.
  • The Robot Leaf Cutter will not pick up the dropped items. The player must collect the items or must use a Robot Picker.
  • The Leaf Cutter cannot be used to gather Wool from Sheep.
