Stuff to mark[edit source]

Can you mark Template:Cleanup and Template:Bee for translation please? Also yell at Santa for being useless and incompetent for doing both wrong. Chocohead NagEditsStaff 11:56, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

Translated pages[edit source]

Can your bot handle editing pages that are already marked for translation? I just wrote some Ruby code using the mediawiki_api and still get the same error that my old code did, the hookaborted crap. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 23:48, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

Huh that's really weird. It worked on my Module:Mods/list test (on my sandbox), but not with the mods/minor mods templates. I guess it's not really *that* important since we'll be doing some sort of autoupdate thing in the future. But it's still weird. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 00:06, 4 July 2015 (UTC)
It just edits the pages and adds some of the markup, if that's what you mean. -Xbony2 (talk) 00:14, 4 July 2015 (UTC)
No. I mean editing pages that have already been marked. Like, not the command that adds the markup :P -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 01:51, 4 July 2015 (UTC)
Probably, I'm not sure what you mean :P -Xbony2 (talk) 12:11, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

From Arcuesfanatic[edit source]

I don't know where the proper place to talk to you is, so hopefully you see this. I am not good with Wiki templates, but I can at least fill out information, particularly on Aura Cascade where there is little documentation outside of the in-game Encyclopedia Aura, and even that can be a little misleading and confusing. I'll do what I can to bring accurate information about the mod, but I suck at proper formatting, so if you could help me with that, that would be great. Thanks. -- The preceding unsigned comment was added by Arcuesfanatic (talkcontribs)

@Arcuesfanatic Be sure to come onto the #FTB-Wikiconnect and ask for any help you need. There is usually someone there that will be willing to help you understand any formatting issues or queries you may have! And be sure to sign your posts with ~~~~ and ask questions by posting messages on talk pages! :) -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 00:04, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
what Santa said :p don't avoid adding information because you're new to the wiki and such, I'll work on format stuff later. -Xbony2 (talk) 01:42, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

Noincludes[edit source]

In your recent edit to {{Navbox Santa's Toys}}, you added a bunch of noincludes. Why? Unless shit wasn't reloading properly on my end (which is possible), it didn't really seem to change anything. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 20:52, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

TheSatanicSanta : it needs it. You could (note the past tense) see "<translate >Santa's Toys</ translate>" on the Santa's Toys/es-ni/Santa's Toys/tl, rather then "Santa's Toys", although it looks all fine on the actual template page. -Xbony2 (talk) 20:57, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
All templates require translation tags to be surrounded in noincludes so that the translations are taken from the template rather than the tags also being interpreted on the page a template is added to. Chocohead NagEditsStaff 21:29, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
Pretty much what Choco said. Modules (navbox or otherwise) are a nice way to avoid these though. -Xbony2 (talk) 22:14, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
Ah, so basically it's an issue on the translated version of the page, not the source page. Gotcha. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 22:56, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

RC Cat[edit source]

Any chance you can use ESAEBSAD for messing with categories? Lotta RC spam as-is. -PaladinAHOne Staff (talk) 03:27, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Thing is, the category overhaul requires a lot of sanity checking and basically everything varies depending on the page and its contents. It probably wouldn't work with a bot, unfortunately. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 05:38, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
If you do it by hand, but while logged in to a bot account, then you can both avoid RC spam and still be able to treat pages on a case by case basis. 🐇Retep998🐇🐰Bunny Overlord🐰 08:39, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
I'd like to make a good API for wiki manipulation and have ESAEBSAD use it, since there's no good ruby API for mediawiki such crap. Btw Paladin, thanks for {{Cg/Crucible}}. -Xbony2 (talk) 12:03, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
What does this have to do with anything? Also Retep's idea is very good. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 18:41, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Using abbreviations in articles[edit source]

Please make sure that you are following the abbreviation guidelines described in the Manual of Style. Your recent article, Diesel Generator (Immersive Engineering), does not follow this style. Thanks. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 20:59, 21 August 2015 (UTC)

With what, RF? (this isn't a recent article btw, it was made more then a month ago) -Xbony2 (talk) 12:44, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Recent rollbacks[edit source]

How did that edit to Module:Mod List prevent us from using L? I don't see the relation there... -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 20:45, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

{{L}} adds the slash automatically, and {{Mod List}} is basically made to use it. -Xbony2 (talk) 21:00, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

Totally not here just for the bees. Maybe.[edit source]

Welcomed a couple editors to the wiki (none of them ever stayed, of course). -XBony2

Thanks for welcoming me ;u;

So, are there any unwritten guidelines/rules or whatnot not in the Manual of Style? I've been an editor on some other wikis but the FTB one is painfully new. Perhaps an esoteric song of praise to admins in order to curry favour?

~ AA

signing posts with ~~~~ is one ;) Also talk a look at the Article Creation Guideline. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 15:46, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
Can we rename that to Article Creation Guidelines? That's been bugging me for months. -PaladinAHOne Staff (talk) 15:59, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
I agree, although that rename is a topic for the staff noticeboard, not here. — NickTheRed37 t/c FTBWiki Translator 17:57, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
Antimonyantinomy- there's some stuff related to categories (semi-refactor going to currently), but don't worry about that. -Xbony2 (talk) 21:43, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
(To elaborate I don't think the current category changes will effect any bee-related stuff) -Xbony2 (talk) 22:33, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
If anything, the changes that will be made will be updated automatically by my bot, so the user really does not need to worry at all. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 07:33, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

XYCraft Tilesheet[edit source]

Since apparently XYCraft did add an Aluminium Can, just spelt it wrongly and removed it in the later releases, it's missing from the tilesheet right now. Can you add it on please? :) Chocohead NagEditsStaff 20:03, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

*Aluminum :P (gotcha) -Xbony2 (talk) 20:42, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

Stop[edit source]

I am the Master of the Russian Minepedia. Stop editing too much, too quickly and too densely. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile. — NickTheRed37 t/c FTBWiki Translator 17:40, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

Densely? Most of the edits would only justify being run as a bot, they're small, simple and very annoying. Chocohead NagEditsStaff 18:51, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
I am agreeing with both of these people. You seriously need to use a bot. Honestly you could just temp login to your bot account and do shit if you dont want to code it. Your rc spam is getting high key ridiculous, and makes checking new edits for quality annoying -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 00:12, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure this also isn't the first time we've talked to you about this. -PaladinAHOne Staff (talk) 03:58, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
SatanicSanta, to make an edit marked as bot’s, setting a special query parameter is needed. That parameter isn’t auto-specified by the bot usergroup. — NickTheRed37 t/c FTBWiki Translator 16:38, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
That is only the case when you are using the edit api. When doing web edits it automatically sets the bot param as true. Also use {{U}} instead of [[]] for user pinging, as it actually causes a notification. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 17:41, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
Oh really? And, actually any linking to a user’s page casts a notification, as seen by experience of being mentioned like that. — NickTheRed37 t/c FTBWiki Translator 17:33, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
Really? I didn't get notified about your mention via [[]] -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 19:27, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
I personally don't look at notifications, but I always keep a hawk-eye on RecentChanges. My notification count is over 99 :P -Xbony2, Master of Feed The Beast Wiki and Spammer of Recent Changes (talk) 19:37, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

"Directors", "Bureaucrats", "Administrators". Btw Nick, I can confirm mentioning via [[]] does work, as debated on my user talk page on the FTB Wiki.

Translating[edit source]

Stop translating to languages you don't know. It just makes the translators jobs harder because we have to go back and fix them. Thanks. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 17:47, 10 September 2015 (UTC)

As discussed on IRC, the proper translation of "Smelting" is "Fundición" rather then "Fundiendo", as that is how the Spanish Minecraft Wiki describes it. I don't pull words out of my butt. -Xbony2, Master of Feed The Beast Wiki (talk) 11:03, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
Believe or believe not, but everyone makes errors. And we (Russian Minepedians) are happy with the fact that we don’t accept the ever-changing and sometimes wrongful Crowdin translation, which is edited by sometimes illiterate masses. — NickTheRed37 t/c FTBWiki Translator 15:38, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
I just looked into it, as I had never heard the word fundición before this, since my family arent metal workers. Fundición is the noun "smelting", while fundiendo is the present progressive (-ing) form of the word fundir, which means "to smelt". So both are proper translations of the word, they just have different uses. Fundicion is correct I think though. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 18:10, 11 September 2015 (UTC)

Dude[edit source]

For real, knock it off. Use your bot. http://puu.sh/kksDH/f5bd01e2b2.png How many times do we need to talk about this? -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 18:43, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

I do not consider that long enough for it to be necessary. Other time sure. -Xbony2, Master of Feed The Beast Wiki (talk) 21:42, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
The recent changes only logs 50 changes when you first go on it, no one cares about 50 changes to add tilesheets to a category. Chocohead NagEditsStaff 22:16, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
My RecentChanges is set to 250 per default. Having it at 50 is silly. -Xbony2, Master of Feed The Beast Wiki (talk) 22:32, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
The problem is you never consider your disruptive mass-editing to be "big enough" for a bot. Pretty much every time you do it, at least one person complains. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 23:33, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

Crusher Tilesheet[edit source]

CRU please. Chocohead NagEditsStaff 16:08, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

You should name the folder as the abbreviation rather than "Mod Name Tilesheets" or whatever. The code looks for the abbreviation rather than a mod name. Also done. It is better to ask Peter or I to do it since Xbony uses code that fails to compress the images enough, or something like that. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 17:19, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
I did, and found xbony had this more useful feature of actually doing them. Chocohead NagEditsStaff 17:58, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
The difference is pretty much insignificant, but I could probably fix my program if it is so desired. As Santa stated, it would be useful to file the folder named the abbreviation. -Xbony2, Master of Feed The Beast Wiki (talk) 20:00, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

“edited page”[edit source]

The summary “edited page” just states an obvious thing, but doesn’t describe how exactly the page was edited; effectively, it is nearly the same as an empty summary. I don’t like senseless edit summaries like that, and I think some others also don’t. — Agent NickTheRed37 (Kirk to Enterprise) — Russian Translator and Minepedian 16:20, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

I like it a lot more than "New Page, Content: *spam of the first half of the page*..." which was what happened before. Chocohead NagEditsStaff 16:56, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
me too. Though xbony may consider changing his script to only use it on new page creation. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 17:03, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
The original script WAS suppose to only apply to new pages, which was the main compliant about it. However, I could not figure out how to make it apply to only new pages, so it applies for all my edits. Feel free to edit User:Xbony2/common/autosummary.js if you know of a solution for that (although use a different script for testing please). -Xbony2, Master of Feed The Beast Wiki (talk) 20:31, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

Some of the recent additions to Railcraft are undocumented, but that's ok, since I don't think anything has been changed drastically. -Xbony2 (talk) 21:55, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

Galleries[edit source]

Hey Xbony2. I've seen the galleries in your articles and would incorporate this in some of my articles. But I wanted to ask if there is no way to remove the arrows ??? I have also looked into the "Wikipedia Help" but found nothing. --LuminousLizard de-native / "en-B2" (talk) 15:59, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

Not your fault or mine. Retep998 or TheSatanicSanta will fix it soon. It's a silly issue with MediaWiki:Common.js. -Xbony2 (talk) 16:02, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
As a temporary fix you can put .gallery span.controls {display:none;} on your user CSS page to hide them. Chocohead NagEditsStaff 16:16, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the hints of you two :) ! CSS updated and works. --LuminousLizard de-native / "en-B2" (talk) 10:21, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Header convention[edit source]

Please follow the header convention of == Name ==. Thanks. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 19:11, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

Fuck that. That was never an agreed upon convention, Nick just threw it in one day.
Before you yell at me to do it anyway, it may be noted that some other notable editors use a similar style. Paladin, Cbutt, Jinbobo, Wolfman, Milcondoin and Padfoote (and many others I can't get around to list) have all used it. You can disagree with me, but overturning half the wiki is silly; I consider it optional; not required by any means. -Xbony2 (talk) 22:07, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
Huh. I could've sworn that was the convention since before I started, but looking at the history, you're right. I'll change that to optional, because I actually agree with you, just trying to enforce the existing style :) -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 01:50, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
#blamenick :P -Xbony2 (talk) 01:52, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
Uhh :/ ... some of these conventions I should look at even again. --LuminousLizard de-native / "en-B2" (talk) 10:35, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Please do not use links in header titles. Thanks. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 20:58, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

There isn't a much better way to do it, though, without it being an eyesore. -Xbony2 (talk) 22:12, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
ESAEBSAD is fixing the headers to match your favored version anyway. It would of been better if you noticed this in one of my first hundred edits tho :c -Xbony2 (talk) 22:48, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Docs[edit source]

So, I asked you about this in IRC, but you're eating/peeing/pooping/sleeping/school/homework/exercise/lifting/wanking/dragon ball z/misc, so here we are. I'm thinking that we should not host the MW::Butt docs here. My alternate ideas include:

  1. FTB-Gamepedia.github.io which would contain docs for all our projects that are in that org
  2. Just using the YARD doc server as the main docs, and keeping the YARD nice.

As for the examples which I wanted here, we could have them in the main repository under a samples or examples directory.

What do you think? -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 07:47, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

eh. -Xbony2 (talk) 12:36, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
and that means...? -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 18:09, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
eh -Xbony2 (talk) 23:33, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Are you expressing apathy or are you requesting clarification? -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 01:32, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
apathy -Xbony2 (talk) 01:33, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
Then I'll be enacting this, utilizing the second option, with the first in mind in the future. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 02:05, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Arcane Scrolls[edit source]

Don't mark Arcane Scrolls stuff with translation. I'm handling that as there's a lot of stuff I'd like to change about the articles. -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 02:15, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Mkay. How come I didn't get that booty like I wanted? :( -Xbony2 (talk) 03:28, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
must've been a mix up -- SatanicSantaFTB Wiki Admin 18:50, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
Oh noes D: what if some innocent child gets the booty and doesn't know what to do with it? I need mi butt Santa! -Xbony2 (talk) 00:27, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
I'm sure they'd find some use for it. Like a pen holder, or a rare Japanese bean-bag. Chocohead NagEditsStaff 01:13, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
