The Block Update Detector (Advanced) is a block added by Extra Utilities. It sends a redstone pulse when there's an update in the block ID, metadata, or tile entity of a nearby block. The side(s) that can output a redstone signal can be configured by right-clicking the block with a Stick or a wrench.

This is an upgraded version of the regular BUD. It will detect any change in block id or metadata or tile-entity data without needing a block update to occur. You can right-click on the advanced BUD with a wrench to select a single side to output a redstone signal on.
