The Electric Furnace is a machine in IndustrialCraft 2 that functions as an faster version of the Iron Furnace. The Electric Furnace also operates on EU instead of on burning Fuel. This adds a distinct advantage over fuel-based Furnaces: the Electric Furnace only uses as much EU as it needs to complete its task. If a Furnace smelts seven Iron Ingots with a piece of Coal, the rest of the Coal's energy is burned up. If an Electric Furnace connected to a Generator does the same, the extra energy will be saved.

Recipe

GregTech

With GregTech 4 and GregTech 5, the Electric Furnace is disabled. GregTech 4 replaces it with the Automatic E-Furnace, while GregTech 5 has it's own Electric Furnace.

Usage

The Electric Furnace GUI

The Electric Furnace's GUI

The top slot in the Electric Furnace GUI is the input slot; whatever material that is being smelted goes there. The bottom slot in the GUI is the Battery slot; if the Electric Furnace is being used without a connection to an EU network, it may be powered using RE-Batteries, BatPacks, Lithium-Batteries, or Lithium-Batpacks in this slot. Lastly, the slot on the right is the output slot; smelted materials will be placed there upon completion.

Without any upgrades, one smelting operation will take approximately seven seconds, and will use 390 EU. While operating, the Electric Furnace will use approximately 3 EU per tick. Overclocker Upgrades can be installed in order to speed up the process, but will increase the EU required. The Electric Furnace's internal battery can hold 416 EU; it can be upgraded by adding Energy Storage Upgrade s.

The Electric Furnace can only handle Low Voltage Energy by default; any more than 32 EU per tick will cause the machine to explode violently. This limit can be increased by adding Transformer Upgrades.

When used in conjunction with Buildcraft Transport Pipes or RedPower 2 Pneumatic Tubes, any material for the input slot needs to come from the top of the Electric Furnace, while anything for the Battery slot should come from the bottom. Output can be taken from the sides of the machine.

Fuel/Speed Comparison

A vanilla Furnace uses 200 Heat Units and takes 10 seconds to complete one smelting operation, while an Electric Furnace uses 390 EU and takes 7 seconds to do the same.

  • Lava based fuel sources are only 10% as efficient in when used in a Generator. If the Electric Furnace is powered by a Geothermal Generator, it can use the full power of the Lava.
