The Redstone Furnace is a machine added by Thermal Expansion 5. It functions identically to a Furnace, but consumes Redstone Flux (RF) instead of burning solid fuels like Coal. It smelts items such as foods and dusts faster than a vanilla Furnace.
The Redstone Furnace has one input (blue) and one output (orange). These can be changed to different faces using the Configuration menu in the machine's GUI.

Uses
Most smelting recipes can be performed in the Redstone Furnace for 2000 RF. Smelting dusts uses 1500 RF, and cooking food or making Cactus Green uses only 1000 RF, making it more efficient to use a Redstone Furnace for these purposes. Augmentation
A Redstone Furnace can accept the following Augments:

Augment: Pyrolytic Conversion |
Specialization | Allows the furnace to process Coal into Coal Coke and logs into Charcoal, producing Creosote Oil as a byproduct. The furnace loses the ability to perform normal smelting operations, and max power usage (speed) is decreased by a factor of 10. The furnace also consumes 50% more power per operation. This augment also gives the furnace a 4-bucket internal tank that can be configured to output on any side, sharing the color of the item output (orange). |
Upgrading
A Redstone Furnace is crafted at the lowest tier (Basic). It can be upgraded to higher tiers using Upgrade Kits. As it is upgraded it is able to use more RF per tick, which allows it to process items faster. Upgrading also adds augment slots, and increases the input and output rate of items and fluids.
To upgrade a Redstone Furnace, you can use both Upgrade Kits and Conversion Kits.
To upgrade using an Upgrade Kit, right click the furnace with the upgrade kit. Upgrade kits must be applied sequentially (Basic, Hardened, Reinforced, Signalum, then Resonant).
Conversion kits are used for upgrading Redstone Furnaces nonsequentially. If you want to jump from a Redstone Furnace to a Resonant Redstone Furnace instantly, you apply a Resonant Conversion Kit rather than sequentially applying Upgrade Kits.
