Welcome

Welcome to the Feed The Beast Wiki, the number one resource for modded Minecraft :D -Xbony2 (talk) 21:09, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

Make Math pretty? I'd settle for someone making it WORK...

Seriously, the extension always causes server timeouts when the (supposedly) preferred rendering method is selected 100% of the time... DSquirrelGM𝓣𝓟𝓒 03:14, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

But as an alternative, could just use the character entities for the mathematical symbols in the formula instead, and use a serif font (with italics for variable names). DSquirrelGM𝓣𝓟𝓒 03:20, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Mana category

Okay, I wrote up a script that will add a set of pages to Mana (Botania), as well as any other specified categories. (Don't worry, it will retain category styling (newline or no newline).) I skipped Mana Lenses and all augments, because I wasn't sure if they should be in Mana (Botania). So, I have three requests/questions:

  1. Should the Mana Lenses and augments be in the Mana category?
  2. Could you go through these lines and make sure that those categories are accurate to the way the Botania thing works? I never liked Botania much so I didn't play it.
  3. Are there any I missed? I simply went through the Special:WhatLinksHere/Mana (Botania) page.

There are lots of Botania pages that simply link to the Mana disambig, so you'll need to go through Special:WhatLinksHere/Mana as well, and then there are Mana Pool and Diluted Mana Pool that don't link at all for some reason (and really outdated anyways). For the lenses/augments, I'd say yes, they might be a broad category but they do many different things, only a few lenses are just stat changes for spreaders.
As for your script accuracy, Hydranges -> Hydroangeas, converor -> convertor for the first item on the list, Orechid makes ores, so it should be added to material fabrication, Livingwood Avatar consumes Mana to use rods, I think the coal for Endoflame counts as solid fuel... that's about it. -- Hubry (talk) 07:06, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
I implemented your suggestions and ran the script. You can take a look at the changes easily at Special:Contributions/SatanicBot, and since I used nice edit summaries you won't have to actually open any other pages in order to check whether I added a page to a wrong category or forgot a category. Since I knew there were only a few translateable pages, I didn't write any code to handle those pages and simply did it manually (Orechid, Infinity Helmet, Infinity Breastplate, Infinity Pants, and Infinity Boots were the only translateable pages in the list). Those ones followed the same edit summary format for maximum laziness for you and other Botania maintainers. -- SatanicSanta🎅FTB Wiki Admin 19:17, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
Nice. I see some mistakes here and there, but that's easily fixable manually. Well done. -- Hubry (talk) 19:31, 20 March 2017 (UTC)

I've seen that, wasn't really in the mood for editing yesterday. It's on the "stuff to update" list anyway, I'll get to it. - Hubry (talk) 13:22, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Stellar Refraction Table Constellation Effects

I appreciate the work you did to pull the information in the most recent update into the table. However, I found the break-out for the earlier version quite useful and that utility has been lost with your edit. I've taken some time to merge the breakout format and the updated information from your table to a sandbox on User_talk:LRWerewolf. I don't want to clobber what you have done but would ask your feedback on what I have done on my User page. Do you think something like this would be a good edit? LRWerewolf (talk) 20:05, 29 June 2018 (UTC)

I am not a big fan of the split into multiple categories. Firstly, it makes the table really wide! (and IMHO rather ugly...) Secondly, what if some item takes some different and weird set of enchantments than expected? Axes are already such an example - they can take Sharpness and other weapon damage enchantments, but none of the other ones, in addition to tool enchantments.
Now, if we do make this change, there are a few issues with your merged table:
  • You ate drank the Strength effect of Discidia.
  • Version change marks are really ugly - if anything, we should have a proper version history table at the bottom of the page... but tracking down all the tweaks and changes is tedious and hard, especially when there's a lot of stuff to do. I'd just ditch that, really.
  • "Sourced from"... that's what *references* are for. Also youtube videos are not that great of a source, especially when you have access to the mod's source code. As great as Vallen is, I'd cut the mention about his video.
  • Alphabetical ordering. Use the canonical constellation order used in the Astral Tome and everywhere else. "wikitable sortable" can take care of the ordering you want.
I'd consider making that table a collapsed one and putting it under the current one, and removing potion effects and books from it maybe? --Hubry (talk) 21:57, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
Appreciate the feedback. Will be tomorrow before I can implement changes but wanted to reply to your points
  • I'll fix the deletion of the Strength effect.
  • Perhaps instead of the parentheticals, which increase width dramatically, I can do a bit different formatting. I'll try a few and see what I can do to make it look better. A reformatting of the cells could offer one way to handle special cases.
  • The sourced from was part of the old version; I'll implement your suggestion as I agree with you -- I validated my info (with the obvious oopsie with Discidia notwithstanding) by comparing the source code from a 1.8.10 time slice to the most recent time slice. And thank you for making me feel I'm not the only one out there who doesn't care for youtube videos as sources of data.
  • Given the ability to sort, not sure why there would be a preference for any given order so long as it was in some way ordered. I can think that they should be ordered in the way you describe to match player progression though, and it makes enough sense I'll make that change.
  • The idea of making your table primarily visible with the expanded table a collapsed table is a good one. I do like that your version is more concise, I like that the old version and my mash-up break it out as I'm usually looking at 'thing' thinking, "What can I do with 'thing'?" With a collapsed table, I could accept making it wider because at that point the workflow that causes it to be visible requires the user to actively indicate a wide format is desired -- this would allow taking care of the exceptions another way than with cell formatting.
